The real Portlandia, featuring food carts.

On Saturday, I went to the Portland Food Cart Festival at the Moda Center (#goblazers, #whyaldridgewhy) to scout out some noms for the magazine Noise & Color PDX. It was dismally underwhelming at first with very few people ambling about, but the places I did nibble at were pretty stellar. Here are some of the places I checked out before my stomach raised the white flag!

Phat Cart‘s famous fried chicken bento, with lime aioli and light, sweet breading:

PDX Sliders‘ Broadway slider, dubbed after one of Portland’s many bridges. Soft braised pork, arugula, and a spicy aioli that drenched my fingers when I took a bite:

And Churros Locos‘ cheerful sundae topped with whipped cream and caramel. Cinnamon sugar from the churro flecked the vanilla ice cream and gave it a little flair of spice–mmmm.
